Hey Billy Long, You Really Didn't Get 'Er Done!: $39 Billion isn't $100 Billion

Pathetic! My Congressman Billy Long was seen all over Washington and his district telling taxpayers the Republicans got the $100 billion promised in spending cuts done. He borrowed a line from Larry the Cable Guy letting voters know, "we got 'er done."

There was just one problem. The $100 billion never was a $100 billion because Congressmen like Long couldn't vote against the federal government sponsoring things like NASCAR teams, despite a $14 trillion and growing deficit. By the time HR1 passed the House, it had shrunk to $61 billion.

Well, last night, in order to keep the government operating, that $61 billion shrunk to $39 billion, all the while Long was cheering for keeping the government running on Twitter taking up the cause of the troops, who he supports putting in harms way in an illegal war in Libya, which if the war escalates, this $39 billion in savings will quickly be forgotten about.

The bipartisan deal struck late Friday falls short of the House Republican campaign pledge to cut $100 billion in fiscal 2011 spending.

The pact cuts $78.5 billion when compared to President Obama's fiscal 2011 budget request, which was never enacted.

Comparatively, the accord cuts $39 billion in actual spending, which is $22 billion less than bill the House passed in February.

So way to go Billy Long and the Republicans. You rode a Tea Party wave to Washington with a mandate to cut spending only to compromise with the Democrats instead of standing your position. I am not impressed with the leadership in the GOP yet once again.
