Conservatives should be waking up scratching their heads wonder what the hell just happened. Boehner compromised in the 11th hour, and the things the conservatives and the Tea Party stand for were given up. I have already alerted you the GOP's plans to block Obama's executive order allowing the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide (cap and trade) were thrown out, but guess what else was thrown out too in order so Boehner and the GOP could celebrate a meager $39 billion in budget cuts--the end of funding to Planned Parenthood--an organization founded in racial bigotry that contributes millions to Democratic candidates.
The AP writes:
In the end, all sides claimed victory.
For Republicans, it was the sheer size of the spending cuts. For Obama and Reid, it was casting aside GOP policy initiatives that would have blocked environmental rules and changed a program that provides family planning services.
Not all policy provisions were struck.
I am very sure this is regarding Planned Parenthood, since it was one of the main talking points of Democrats.
Boehner has shown no leadership since he got to the Hill, and we shouldn't be surprised with this development. It's really a sad day. The Republicans got very little and gave up even more. The Tea Party needs to start looking for new friends in Washington.
Update: While the AP says Obama and Reid got their wishes with family planning, there is a provision that blocks federal money for abortions. My question is, will the same companies like Planned Parenthood, who the Democrats argue provide family planning still receive federal money while still maintaining their abortion practices? I feel a little duped if that is the case. If Planned Parenthood still gets money, what's the difference?
