The Failure Known as the Department of Energy Will Remain Open During Government Shutdown

In the late 1970s, the Department of Energy was founded to ensure long term affordable energy in the United States. In case you haven't noticed, with gas prices at $4 a gallon, foreign dependence on oil increasing while US oil sits in the ground, and the idea that windmills will soon pollute the horizon and fail to produce efficient energy, we learn the Department of Energy will remain in full operation during the government shut down.

WHY?

This is just another example of inefficient government at its best, never providing solutions, in fear Department of Energy jobs will be lost if a permanent solution to America's energy woes are found.

How is it they can stay open? Well, its the way budgets are mishandled in Washington. Rather than return unspent money from the previous year to the federal taxpayer for debt reduction, the Department of Energy appears to hung on to some money so they can continue abusing the American taxpayer with their poor results.

"DOE has some no-year funds that would allow us to continue operating even if there is a government shutdown," the official said, although it's unclear how much they have.

DOE said Thursday that the money won’t last very long.

“There is a limited amount of time during which none of our programs are affected.” But, the official said, “It’s not as though nothing is changed; we certainly are impacted.”
