Congressman Long is sending mixed signals about fiscal responsibility and shutting down the government. Just a couple of weeks ago, Long voted against John Boehner's plan to keep the government running while cutting $4 billion in spending. Long commented on his vote:
Billy Long, of Springfield, Missouri, was among more than 50 conservative Republicans who joined Democrats in voting no to the extension. No St. Louis-area Democrat voted in favor of the stop-gap fix.
"As Senate Democrats take to the floor to defend even minor frivolous spending, such as subsidies for cowboy poetry, it is clear they lack the conviction or courage to address the nation's dire fiscal problems," Long said in a statement.
But now Long seems stressed about the idea of a government shut down, even after voting against Boehner's plan to keep government operating. Long tweeted today.
Putting their lives on the line everyday- fighting 3 Wars - and our Troops will not be paid if we shut down. Obama, Pelosi & Reid let's talk
I was in the military the last time we had a government shut down, and we got paid. (We were quite worried about it.) I don't know why this one is different. Essential government services don't shut down during a government shut down, and the military is one of the most essential services of government since the Constitution authorizes the federal government to keep a military for a common defense.
Anyone see the hypocrisy here? Billy Long is playing both sides of the fence. On once side, he received accolades from the Tea Party for not going along with Beohner's plan to keep government running while saving a minimal amount of money, and now he is all upset the government could shut down and he is using our military as his prop.
Then we get this next tweet knowing Billy Long didn't propose one budget cut in HR1, and voted to keep federal funding of three NASCAR teams.
So now after voting against Boehner to keep the government running, Long is now blaming Democrats. I mean, they are at fault here, but Long voted against Boehner's plan to keep the government running too. Long voted against Boehner for political gain as he was quick to tell constituents he finally voted against his establishment buddies for the first time since he got to Washington.
So what is it Billy? You are happy to vote against Boehner's plan with your vote that would have shut down the government, and now you are upset they are pushing to shut down the government? Please explain, and you are probably going to need more than 140 characters to tell us what that little object underneath the cowboy hat is thinking.
