Google's New Face Recognition Software Could be a Stalker's Best Friend

You've seen that guy at the bar. He has his eyes set on that one girl. Week after week, he tries to engage in conversation with her each week growing more desperate with his attempt to woo her over in a desperate bid to copulate. Each time she rejects him, keeping even her name private from him.

What if getting her name and personal information was as simple as taking a picture of her as she leaves the bar? That may be what Google's next project may lead to.

Google is developing face recognition technology that opens up a can of worms. With one picture, Google is prepared to launch a program that all you have to do is take a picture and a world of information will open about the person you seek information on. There supposedly are some safeguards, but who's to say they will actually work.

Google plans to introduce a mobile application that would allow users to snap pictures of people’s faces in order to access their personal information, a director for the project said this week.

In order to be identified by the software, people would have to check a box agreeing to give Google permission to access their pictures and profile information, said Hartmut Neven, the Google engineering director for image-recognition development.

So it sounds cool, and you decide to do it not thinking about this scenario or similar scenarios. Do you really want your information accessed this easily?
