If Billy Long was an honest man, he would retract his statement that "we got 'er done." Long was referring to the $100 billion in spending cuts promised by the weak Speaker of the House John Boehner in his Pledge to America. Of course, Billy Long who ran on a 'fed up' platform isn't going to rock the boat for his republican establishment buddies no matter how 'fed up' he once claimed to be.
This is the problem with Billy Long. He was never who he said he was as he ran for election, and he doesn't have the brains or courage to lead a revolution in Washington to make significant cuts that will reduce federal debt.
The prolific tweeter hasn't mentioned one word about the actual number of the budget cuts that I can find. It's not $100 billion. It never was $100 billion. Long was saying "we got 'er done" before they were even done voting on HR1 and its amendments. In the end, Long couldn't even support cutting federal funding to NASCAR teams to come up with the $100 billion promised. Only $61 billion in spending cuts from a multi trillion budget were accomplished.
Oh, but it gets worse. Thanks to the lackadaisical leadership of John Boehner, afraid of the press he might receive if the government was to shut down (showing he has no courage like Long), those $61 billion in cuts have not been reduced to $33 billion in cuts. Got 'er done Billy? Really? You and the Republicans failed miserably!
Budget talks came to life Wednesday but not without tension between the White House and Senate Democrats, worried that the administration was too quick to agree to $33 billion in spending cuts to try to move Speaker John Boehner toward what remains a very uncertain deal.
Meanwhile, we are moving closer to the debt ceiling all because the Republicans didn't show one ounce of Tea Party courage in cutting federal spending.
