Bennett's Mill Covered Bridge, Kentucky: One of the Few Covered Bridges Still Left in Kentucky

Covered bridges seem more common in the New England area of the United States. So, I was surprised when I came across this beautiful covered bridge in Greenup County, Kentucky. It's know as Bennett's Mill Bridge built in 1855. According to historians it's the only one of its kind, a Wheeler truss bridge left standing. It's 158 feet long and it crosses Tygarts Creek on Kentucky 7.

This bridge was considered extremely important during the Civil War and all times, union troops guarded this bridge nearby and from the 800 foot cliffs that surround the bridge. It was named after B.F. Bennett, who owned a nearby mill.
