Hiking to Daniel Boone's Hut in the Red River Gorge of Kentucky

Part of the area called Daniel Boone's Hut.
The Red River Gorge in Kentucky is located in Kentucky's Cumberland Plateau in the eastern part of the state. It's one of the most visited areas in Kentucky, thanks to its high cliff walls that attract rock climbers, hikers, campers, and out of place tourists (who block Kentucky's Highway 77 taking group pictures of themselves in front of the Nada Tunnel).

The area offers some rugged hiking with some challenges, including the hike to Daniel Boone's Hut. Now to be fair, I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked in this area, designated by the Federal Government with no Constitutional authority as Daniel Boone National Forest. I did manage to hike two and a half miles back to an area called Daniel Boone's Hut, which is a series of cave like overhangs that rise up to form a beautiful cliff.

Now that spring is hear, more and more people are out hiking the trails. There were several campers in the area, including one man smoking marijuana who didn't seem to impressed with Daniel Boone's Hut. I honestly thought, be the way he talked, I was going to see the remains of some small cabin-like structure. Silly me, but this guy was stoned and not making a lot of sense, and he was cold too since the area got a dusting of snow in late March. His first priority upon leaving his tent was to light up a joint. On my way back, he had finally decided it was time to get the campfire relit because he was cold. Good times!

Here's some pictures from the Red River Gorge and Daniel Boone's Hut:

Kayleigh got to go on this hike and met other dogs on the trail.
