There is a bill currently headed for debate in the Senate that would rob webmasters of due process when it comes to copyrighted materials. It gives the federal government the power to remove Web sites from the Internet they believe are in violation of copyright laws without the federal government going to court to prove the webmaster's guilt.
As we frequently find out in Obama's tyrannical world, the wait for Congress to pass this bill and the Supreme Court to declare in Constitutional is always an inconvenience.
From Hillicon Valley:
The investigative arm of the Homeland Security Department appears to be shutting down websites that facilitate copyright infringement.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has seized dozens of domain names over the past few days, according to TorrentFreak.
ICE appears to be targeting sites that help Internet users download copyrighted music, as well as sites that sell bootleg goods, such as fake designer handbags.
The sites are replaced with a note from the government: "This domain named has been seized by ICE, Homeland Security Investigations."
For instance, 2009jersey.com, 51607.com, and amoyhy.com have each been seized.
One of the site owners told TorrentFreak that his site was shut down without any notice or warning.
The effort come as Congress considers the Combatting Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA). Critics, including Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) say it is too heavy-handed. He has vowed to put a formal hold on the bill.
I warned my readers when they were getting all excited about a Republican Congress before the midterm elections that Obama would reroute his agenda around the Congress. This appears to be happening even before the Republicans take power in January. While many laughed at me, it appears I was right, and I only expect it to get worse.
The bill hasn't even been passed yet, and Obama's bureaucracies are carrying out the actions of the bill before Congress has a chance to vote. I fear Congress is becoming irrelevant under the Obama administration, and this is proven by the enforcing laws that don't even exist by his cabinet secretaries. To think, Congress wants to give up more of their power and give it to Obama, like the power to appropriate using earmarks worries me even more--of course Ron Paul warned us many months ago of the dangers of surrendering Congressional power to the executive branch.
I hope you don't need any more proof than this to know the Department of Homeland Security, a new bureaucracy that was set up to protect Americans from terrorism, is at war against Americans and is now involved in censoring the Internet. They are the face of the American police state.
