Cedar Falls at Hocking Hills in Ohio |
It's spring break, and I am headed to the Appalachians to backpack. Before getting there, I stopped off at Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. This scenic forest is full of gorges, scenic cliffs, and obviously lots of waterfalls. Today I hiked in the following areas: Ash Cave, Old Man's Cave and Old Man's Cave Gorge, Cedar Falls, and Coxley Hollow.

Hocking Hills is located not far from Columbus to the southeast, and is an amazing place to hike. There are trails for everyone from expert to novice, and if you are a novice, you won't miss out on any of the beautiful Ohio waterfalls. Take a look for yourself:
Devil's Bathtub--they say if you fall in, you aren't getting out on your own.
A word of warning to novice hikers, the cliff areas of Hocking Hills can be tricky and often provides narrow passages that can be wet, muddy, and slippery. The cliffs are over 200 feet tall, and people have died hiking in the areas, so use caution. There are placed along the trail that are very narrow with gaps in the rocks, which you can see in the picture. Be sure to use caution and good judgement if you aren't used to hiking. Even as much as I hike, there was a moment when I experienced vertigo from the height and the nerve producing rocks.
