Billy Long isn't fed up with Obama's unconstitutional attack on Libya. |
“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
– Sen. Barack Obama, 12/20/2007.
I hate to say it, but Barack Obama was right about the Constitution. It's too bad he forgot his very words. Of course Obama has never been very good at following the Constitution, but hey let's not kid ourselves, neither have the Republicans, which is exemplified by the very fact they seem to forget what the Constitution says about the military and war and continue to support the aggressive use of American forces.
Is it any surprise? I mean look at the money thrown into the campaigns of Congress from the industrial military complex. In Southwest Missouri, Long was well funded by defense contractors who have no presence in Southwest Missouri and who watch their stock rise as more Americans are put in harms way in a war that America should not be in.
As Long went to Washington promising to cut government spending, he seems to forget the amount of US debt racked up by two other endless wars, and America these days doesn't seem to fight wars to win. America fights wars to occupy like in Iraq and Afghanistan. Let's look once again at which defense contractors paid Billy Long off to support military action and put American service men in harms way.
Long was bought by some major defense contractors during the election. Among the list of special interest groups that donated to his campaign, military contractors Boeing, General Dynamics, Halliburton, Honeywell, Koch Industries, and KPMG. These political campaign contributions set up that Long will overlook the possibility of making defense spending cuts that will assist in tackling the greatest threat to the American way of life, the national debt, which is approaching $15 trillion very quickly.
Long looked away from the Constitution and ignored all the times the federal government looked away at the slaughter of innocents as they supported a propped up dictator (like Saddam Hussein at one time) to express his support of Obama's war in Libya. The Joplin Globe reports:
Allowing Moammar Gadhafi to slaughter his own people is not acceptable, but “Congress needs to be kept in the loop,” Long said.
Long says this war won't be open ended, but Republicans have promised Americans that before. We have two endless wars that are turning into permanent occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Other neocon Republicans from Missouri also expressed their support for Obama's illegal and unconstitutional attack of Libya.
“Sen. Blunt has been supportive of a no-fly zone,” Amber Marchand, Blunt’s director of communications, said in an email.
Hartzler, in a telephone interview, said she supports efforts to protect civilians from a “tyrannical dictator,” and she said she’s glad it’s an international effort “to give them a fighting chance for freedom.”
And so you have it. The president wages an unconstitutional attack against Libya, and the same Republicans who catered to the Tea Party promising to follow the Constitution have decided to throw the Constitution out the window, ignoring the reason the United States is supposed to finance a military (common DEFENSE) to continue American aggression around the world.
One has to ask with Long's support of this war, which is going to push America dangerously close to the debt ceiling, how Long will vote now for the debt ceiling increase. If he supports the war and this war continues, his vote on the debt ceiling may show conflict in his beliefs.
