Let's eat, I just worked up an appetite spending up to $5 billion more of your money. |
When Billy Long talked about experience on the campaign trail, he said signing checks for 30 years gave him the experience to bring common sense to Washington. I argued, nearing $14 trillion in federal debt, the last thing Washington needs is another professional check writer.
Well Long has been in Washington for only two months, and he is showing us his skills as a check writer, co-sponsoring bills that expand the size of government like the "If You See Something Say Something Act of 2011" and increases government spending like HR 607, the emergency broadband frequency act that takes away HAM radio frequencies and gives them to the federal government. I was reading this bill this afternoon, reminded of Billy Long's promise to cut government spending and bring common sense to Washington.
Obviously the common sense has been thrown out the window as HAM radio operators are a first line defense in times of emergency, something Long claimed ignorance to in the Springfield News-Leader last week, but as we find out Billy Long isn't afraid to co-sponsor legislation either that totals multi-billions in new federal spending--which will be assuredly added to the national debt for Southwest Missouri families to help pay back.
Reading HR607 in its entirety, you quickly learn it adds $2 billion more to the federal budget and can be expanded to up to $5 billion more in government spending. I thought Billy Long and the Republicans were supposed to be cutting government spending, but if they keep introducing bills like this which negate their meager attempts at cutting $100 billion in spending, it's not hard to see there isn't going to be much deficit reduction going on with Billy Long and the Republicans in the House.
