KMOX St. Louis Casts Doubts in Sarah Steelman's Ability to Win the US Senate Seat

KMOX, the legendary AM station out of St. Louis has doubts about Sarah Steelman's strength as a candidate (as they should). KMOX reports that 59% of Missouri voters have no clue who Sarah Steelman is. That's pretty sad considering it was just two years ago that she made an unsuccessful bid for governor, not to mention she has held a state office before as well. Does that mean Steelman is uninspiring easily forgettable as a candidate. I know when I heard her speak during a Lincoln Day event I left scratching my head wondering what all the fuss about her was. Perhaps it was the tight blouses and short mini skirts.

Anyway, from the KMOX Web site:

Sarah Steelman’s got a lot of explaining to do, if she wants to be successful in her bid for the U.S. Senate.

That’s because a new poll says 59-percent of voters don’t know enough about her to have an opinion.

Politico reporter Dave Cantanese says there’s a lot at play – with both Jim Talent and Steelman having lost high-profile races.

“The question is: are the big donors, the honchos in the Republican Party comfortable with her?” he said, on KMOX’s Mark Reardon Show. “I think that’s a big question mark.”

Cantanese speculated that there might still be some bad blood from Steelman’s failed bid for Governor in 2008.

In a hypothetical match-up by Public Policy Polling, incumbent Claire McCaskill leads Steelman by one point and she trails Jim Talent and Peter Kinder each by two points.

All of that is within the margin of error.

Of the potential field of candidates, Cantanese said Talent and Steelman are “the only two players in this game.”
