Deal Making in DC: Unemployment Extension for Bush Tax Cuts

It appears the Republicans are ready to make a deal with the Democrats. To save the Bush tax cuts, it appears Republicans are ready to agree with Democrats that Americans should have more unemployment. So we are going to extend benefits to people who can't find work in three or four years of looking? Are you serious?

The extensions will cover another 52 weeks of benefits for those who can't find jobs. So to save the tax cuts, the GOP is ready to make a federal safety net bigger.

"Let's take care of the unemployment compensation even if it isn't ... backed up by real finances," Hatch said. "We've got to do it. So let's do it. But that ought to be it."

What is backed up by real finances in government these days anyway, right Senator Hatch? It's all Monopoly funny money!
