Fed Up Billy Long Advocates for a "Tax Funded Boondoggle"
It didn't take Billy Long long to embrace the wasteful spending of Washington DC. Long was part of a small group of Congressmen-elect who chose to attend the second part of freshman orientation at Harvard University at the Kennedy School of government. According the Harvard Gazzette, Long is disappointed more Republicans chose not to attend.
Alvin Powell from the Harvard Gazette writes, "Billy Long, a Republican from Missouri’s 7th District, described the complexity of the problems highlighted in the sessions as “daunting.” He added that he wished more incoming legislators from his own party had attended. He said he has offered his services two years from now to spread the word among Republicans on the conference’s value.
Daunting? Like out of your league Mr. Long?
Once again, we see Billy Long is embracing the DC culture, but not only that he is advocating for wasteful government spending, at least according to former House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX). Before I share with you what Delay said about the Kennedy School of Government conference for incoming freshmen, let me remind you of what Billy Long said about wasteful Washington spending.
In 1992, Tom Delay had some common sense words to say about the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's freshman orientation conference. In fact, Delay called the entire conference a "tax-funded boondoggle" during a speech on the House floor.
On April 29, 1992, Tom DeLay stood up on the House floor and decried a 'tax-funded boondoggle' that sent freshman members of Congress to Harvard for a seminar. 'Yes,' DeLay asserted, 'the congressional freshman orientation at Harvard doesn't cost millions of dollars. But even the thousands of dollars of tax money used for this congressional boondoggle sets a bad example for new Members of Congress.' Instead, DeLay urged, 'grass-roots organizations' should conduct orientations at no cost to the American taxpayer. The organizations DeLay named were" the Coalition for America, the Council for National Policy, Free Congress Foundation, and Free the Eagle," Sarah Posner wrote February 21, 2005, for The Gadflyer.
According to Tom Delay, Billy Long is already showing his poor judgement as Long has obviously decided to become an advocate for a "tax-funded boondoggle." It didn't take long for Billy Long to be fed up of being fed up with wasteful government spending, now did it? ...And he's not even in office yet.
