We are barely out of the midterm elections and there is already talk of Jim DeMint, the Club for Growth, and Republican Senatorial Committee endorsing Sarah Steelman even before a challenger comes forward in the Republican primary. What we are seeing here is a deal of who's next in line for the Republican nod once again. This is one thing that I get tired of in Republican politics--the chosen next. It's what gave us Bob Dole in 1996, John McCain in 2008, and apparently it's going to give us Sarah Steelman for Senate in 2012.
Obviously, there has been a deal made that kept Sarah Steelman out of the 2010 Senate race against Roy Blunt, and now those favors are being quickly repaid as even good name conservatives like Jim DeMint is embracing the Missouri blonde bimbo. Surely it's not the mini skirt barely covering the 52 year old legs of Steelman is it Mr. DeMint? Cause it surely can't be her brains. She has a masters degree in Economics and can barely have a conversation on free trade.
Sarah Steelman, who is trying to sell herself as the anti-establishment candidate is already having meetings in Washington DC. She met with Jim DeMint recently.
"I was really impressed," DeMint told the Ballot Box of his meeting with Steelman, who recently jumped into the race against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). "She seems to be right down the line of where we are. She gets the need to roll back government spending and debt, so I was impressed."
Yeah, she's real good with talking points, but as Mark Reardon pointed out on KMOX there is just no substance calling her "not the sharpest knife in the drawer."
So basically, it's becoming easier to sum up the Steelman US Senate candidacy. It appears she was promised her chance by backing out of the 2010 US Senate Missouri primary against Roy Blunt. Now she is being coached by the establishment as to their expectations as it took her no time to get to Washington DC, furthering this belief Steelman is being promoted for playing the political games of the Republican party. It's not your turn, but in 2012... So she ends her challenge against Blunt before officially committing to the 2010 Senate race, only to announce one month later after the race. She is the party-picked candidate, and it's going to be hard for her to run as the anti-establishment outsider considering how this appears to be playing out.
It appears the powers that be are putting pressure on Jim Talent to stay out of the race to ensure Steelman has an easy primary, despite she is the only candidate who is polling under the current Senator Claire McCaskill. Now how bad do you have to be to be polling under Claire McCaskill in this anti-Democrat incumbent environment? Considering the Republicans willingness to wheel and deal for the Bush tax cuts in exchange for Obama's bride of stimulus, the Republicans might not have an easy road in 2012 like they expect. They better consider Sarah Steelman is the only major Republican underneath McCaskill in early polls.
Apparently there was a not so nice piece written by the Club for Growth on Jim Talent. Since the story was released, sources close to Mr. Talent are saying that the chances of him entering the race in January are now down to 50/50.
I am telling you, the powers that are be are pushing Steelman upon Missourians and working to remove any choice in the 2012 Republican primary. It's all a return of favors for Steelman not running in 2010.
