For those who followed the Congressional election, Billy Long spent most of his campaign money outside of the Seventh District. Rather than engage in commerce with Southwest Missouri companies for campaign goods and services, Long sent his money outside of the district and outside of the state including spending over $100,000 on campaign commercials that could have been filmed in Southwest Missouri. As well, most of Billy Long's key campaign advisers weren't from the 7th district either.
For someone who claims to be a political outsider who won't embrace the Washington culture, Billy Long continues to look to Washington just like he did for his political commercials to shape his Congressional career. Long has chosen Washington DC insider Joseph M. Lillis (Joe) as his chief of staff. Joe Lillis has been an advisor to career politicians for 11 years. As well, Lillis isn't from the Seventh District and obviously isn't as close to our values as a chief of staff from Southwest Missouri would be.
I guess the question is, why did "fed up political outsider" Billy Long look to the Washington establishment once again to carry out his "fed up political outsider" promises?
