Obama hates the Second Amendment, but he will never tell you that. Your first sign to watch out for this snake is his clever use of language. He no longer calls it gun control. It's gun reform. Make no mistake, they are the same, but one is said with hopes that you relax and buy into it's about safety.
Obama rolled out his three part plan to produce gun reform in the United States in the Arizona Daily Star, and it's scary to say the least. Here's Obama's plan:
• First, we should begin by enforcing laws that are already on the books. The National Instant Criminal Background Check System is the filter that's supposed to stop the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun. Bipartisan legislation four years ago was supposed to strengthen this system, but it hasn't been properly implemented. It relies on data supplied by states - but that data is often incomplete and inadequate. We must do better.
• Second, we should in fact reward the states that provide the best data - and therefore do the most to protect our citizens.
• Third, we should make the system faster and nimbler. We should provide an instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks to sellers who want to do the right thing, and make sure that criminals can't escape it.
Pay attention to number two. This is the scary part. Obama wants states to report to the federal government gun sale data, and he is prepared to reward states, which he knows are struggling with budget problems, who report who is buying what to the federal government. This isn't just about criminal history. That's right, if your state reports to the federal government you purchased that brand new 9mm, your state is going to receive incentives. Isn't this the way the federal government always works. The more your state helps restrict firearm sales, the better off financially they will be thanks to federal dollars.
